I received a copy in an exchange for a honest review.

The author does an amazing job at helping the reader visualize this world as if it was actually playing out right in front of your eyes. The moment I began reading this book, we were automatically thrown into action and got straight to the point (which I love)! I enjoyed the plot and like this book.

The only issue I had with this book was that sometimes I felt like the characters didn't have appropriate reactions to the things playing out in front of them. Their reactions didn't just really feel like they were realistic sometimes. Things would happen that would shake anybody up, surprise, or fill someone with joy, etc. Superhero or not, anybody would have these feelings. Like when a character had revealed his powers in an intense scene, nova didn't really seem shocked. Even though she hadn't shown any indication that she was suspecting that character of having superpowers. So, why wouldn't she be shocked, right? Especially since she thought she was the only person (besides the villain) who had these powers. There were multiple instances in this book where this popped up but, I really did like this book. :)

This book had awesome action, and plot! If you are really into superheroes then you should totally check this one out!

Why don't more people know about this book?!?! This book was seriously amazing! It is a great mix of contemporary and paranormal! I was instantly hooked! I have been contemplating on whether to give this a five or four star rating. After some thinking, I've decided that this is defintely a 5 star book! I love how everything wrapped up at the end of the book and is probably the best ending to a book I have read in awhile. That ending makes me want to sqeal from happiness! ;3

This is the story of Avery and Kai and what they became after a terrible accident that left one of them dead. About 6 months later, with the all the guilt and emotions weighing her down, she is no loner the Avery that was adventurous  and a risk taker. She gives up the one thing she loves most... surfing.

After dying after rescuing a girl who nearly drowned, he spends his time as a ghost who helps the grim, helping heal people, and watching over the one he saved. He eventually falls in love with her and decides that he can no longer continue to watch the girl he loves suffer from the guilt, and grief from his death and the issues her boyfriend keeps laying upon her. So, he borrows a ring that will allow hm to pretty much become a human and sets out to attempt to "heal" Avery. He knows that if he gets caught with that ring, he will be punished. Or if he lets slip or Avery finds out that he is the one who saved her that terrible night, it will mean his permanent removal from Earth. That's just the risk he will have to take.

5 out of 5 Stars! Like I said, this was an amazing novel! I totally recommend you all check it out!

EXCERPT

(Kai’s point of view) I’m not sure if I have a heart, but something in my ribcage swells at the sight of Avery. Her hair shimmers like spun gold in the sunlight, falling over her shoulder and hiding her face. She’s sitting on a sheet of black rock, head bent, and the flowery skirt of her sundress ripples in the breeze.
    If she turns around, she’ll see me. If I speak, she’ll hear my voice. I open my mouth to do that, but it’s parched, hit with an unexpected drought of words.
    I’ve been walking for hours, and I still don’t have a solid plan. I have an end goal, but it’s like looking up at the peak of a mountain when I’m still in the valley. I want Avery to find happiness again, but I have no idea how to get her there.
    Luckily, improvising is what I’m best at. Writing songs on the fly, talking myself out of trouble, and ad-libbing life in general. When I had a life, I was dropped into a new environment every few months with no time for planning. Survival depended on my ability to improvise, because it was the only way to keep my head above water.
    As I inch toward Avery, I turn phrases over in my mind, trying to choose the best way to introduce myself. I hate to think how she’ll react if she recognizes me, but I doubt she will. I saw her run across my picture on a missing persons report once, and she scanned right past it. Besides, I saw my reflection in the shop window this morning, and although my face is the same, I don’t exactly look like myself with my new Jack Frost hair.
    Over her shoulder, I see she’s holding a fishing net in her lap. Her fingers are working with it like she’s trying to free something. A crab. Her hands tremble as she tries to unravel it, so she’s not really getting anywhere.
    Without thinking, I fish the pocketknife from my shorts, unfold the blade, and lower it in front of her in offering. She flinches and whips around to look at me, eyes wide.
    So much for improvising.
    I nod toward the tangled mess in her lap. “For the crab.” Yes. Those are the words I’ve waited six months to speak to her. If Charles comes in the next moment to take back his ring, at least I can live in eternal peace knowing I was able to utter those three words.
    Her brows pinch together, then she shakes her head and turns back to the crab. “I’m trying to free him, not eat him.”
    For a few breaths, I’m speechless. In awe that she just talked to me. She can see me. And hear me. If I reach out and touch her shoulder, she’ll feel my fingertips on her skin. I don’t, of course. I’ve scared her enough for one day.
    “I know,” I say, trying to keep my voice soft and non-threatening. I crouch down and offer the knife again, this time handle first. “It’s for the net.”
    Her hands go still, and then she smiles sheepishly. “Oh. Right.”
She takes the knife and goes to work, biting her lower lip as she concentrates on plucking away strands of netting. I wonder why she’s going to so much trouble to free a half-dead crab, but I say nothing because for some reason it seems really important to her.
    The knife makes her task easier, but when the crab is free, she frowns at the water, swallowing hard. Seeing the reluctance in her face, I stand and open my hand. “Here. I’ll throw it in.”
    She deposits the crab in my palm, and I carry the newly liberated creature to where the waves are pitching against the rock. I toss it back home, and it disappears beneath the marbled surface.
    When I turn back, Avery is standing with her arms twined around her waist. As I stroll toward her, the wind kicks up and sends golden strands of hair flying around her. With the way she’s standing there on the rocks, she looks like some kind of mythical siren. I feel just as scared as if she were one, just as bewitched. The haunting song in her eyes lures me in until I’m standing right in front of her. She gazes up at me a long moment, searching my face as if she’s hunting for familiarity. For a minute I worry she recognizes me. But then she folds the knife and hands it back.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

David Kudler is a writer and editor living just north of the Golden Gate Bridge with his wife, actress, teacher, and author Maura Vaughn, their author to be daughters, and apparently non-literary cats.

A published author, he is currently working on Risuko: A Kunoichi Tale, a young-adult historical adventure novel set in sixteenth century Japan.

He serves as publisher for Stillpoint Digital Press. Since 1999, he has overseen the publications program of the Joseph Campbell Foundation, for which he has edited three posthumous volumes of Campbell's previously unpublished work (Pathways to Bliss, Myths of Light and Sake & Satori) and managed the publication of over fifty print, ebook, print, audio, and video titles, including the third edition of the seminal The Hero with a Thousand Faces.

Currently, David serves as vice-president of the Bay Area Independent Publishers Association.

Historical Fiction is one of my favorite genres to read and I may have a slight obsession with Japanese culture, so this was a must read for me! I seriously loved this book!! I loved the plot, characters, just every aspect of this book! I seriously can't wait to read the next installment of this book, and see what happens next in this story and what Risuko's path will lead out to be!

This story is a bit difficult to describe without giving away most of what happened but, here is my best attempt at it! ;D This is the story of Kano Murasaki, or as her mother calls her Risuko (squirrel). When her mother sells her, she is torn away from her home. She is to have formal training a Mochiziki to become a Miko, a shrine maiden. As her training begins, things begin to mysteriously disappear, and people begin to notice that someone has been going through their stuff. Risuko, along with Emi, and Tiomi get the blame for it all but, most of the suspicion is laid upon Risuko. As more and more weird things occur, they must find out who is at fault for this.
This book is only 230 pages long, so therefore, it was a pretty fast read! Before I knew it, everything was wrapping up and
it was near the end of the book. The pacing did slow down a lot only after a couple chapters but, I really didn't mind. Like I said before, I enjoyed the story line and the characters in this book, and can't wait for the next book! ;D

I don't usually like these type of books, but I enjoyed every second of it!
This book includes the character details, the timeline of events from the books, the origin of certain terms used in the books (like bardia, numa, Revenant, etc.), locations addressed in the book and where to find them, DELETED SCENES, inside the minds of certain characters (POVs), an interview from Amy Plum, the characters and the books playlists, works of art mentioned in the series, books we have caught Kate reading, movies referenced in the books, different French foods and drinks mentioned, a Die for Me dictionary (French vocabulary mentioned in the books), and and Revenants quiz!!!
I think my favorite part of this book was either the Deleted Scenes, Inside the minds of some characters, or the interview from Amy Plum. I loved getting an insight on what happened to the characters after the books had finished, and getting some answers that I bet everyone who has read the series have been wondering! I especially loved the deleted scenes! I particularly loved the Alternate Kate gets banned Scenario. ;D While I was reading it I was like, oh my gosh Kate!! 
If you are a huge fan, like me, of the Revenant series by Amy Plum, you need to read this! If you haven't read the novella's yet, then I highly recommend that you read those before reading this. Since there are a lot of spoilers for those novellas in here.

This story follows three characters, Wink, Poppy, and Midnight.  In this book, not everything is as it seems and it's keeps you guessing a bit on who is not who they say they are and whose lying. It seems that people have pretty mixed feelings towards this book. I have seen people who either really love it or people who really dislike it. It seems like there is no in between. When I first started it I didn't understand why anybody would dislike it, it was gold! But, then I got mid-way through the book and I was like, "Oh, that's why." The beginning was going good, I loved it! Halfway it took a sharp, weird turn, that I didn't really like, and the characters turned out not to be as they portray themselves (which I knew that was going to happen but I didn't expect in the way it happened). This is the point that really just began to lose my interest and got me confused about a certain characters change in character. But, by the time that everything unfolded in the end and explained why certain things happened; I realized that it was pretty freaking awesome!

In the beginning, one character really stood out to me, and that was Wink.  I was seriously admiring Wink. I loved the way she didn't let other people and their hateful words towards her affect her in any way. She just shrugged it off like it was nothing. She was pretty freaking awesome! ;D Here is one quote from her that I loved,

"'So everyone saw my unicorn underwear, Midnight. So what. Repeat after me. So everyone saw Wink's unicorn underwear who cares.' ...

'In a hundred years, who will care about my unicorn underwear? Who cares right now? There are bigger things to think about.'

'Bigger things like what?

'Battles and wars. Lost causes and lost loved. Unsolved mysteries and magical ring and Here Be Dragons. Fairy Paths..." ~Wink Poppy Midnight page 62

Even though, things happened in this book that I wasn't the biggest fan of, overall, this book was amazing. It felt realistic, the characters, the plot, everything. The author portrayed everything amazingly! I am definitely looking forward to reading more of her books in the future! ;D

         From the second I opened this book, I was pulled in. I absolutely love K. Kibbee's take on the entire Fae world. It really pulls the reader in and makes the reader carious about what will happen next. The ending of this was phenomenal. PHENOMENAL! It completely caught me off guard! Kibbee gives this sense that everything is going to be okay at the end. But, then shes like, you thought. This book is actually part of a series! The second book comes out in September and it's called, The Raven Queen! I seriously can't wait!!  Not only would I like to see more of this world from Kibee, I would also just like to in general like to see more writing from her! ;D

          This story follows Anne, a thirteen year old who is spending her summer break with some of her relatives. On the train ride there a boy tells her the story of Nowhere Town, a town that supposedly in the past was  once full of people, one day is suddenly disserted. Not a person in sight, still empty of people, and still full of the previous owners belongings. Let's just say everybody stays clear of Nowhere town. No one still really knows why the people went up and left. This pokes at Anne's curiosity and decides that eventually she will visit and investigate the so called Nowhere town. She gets her chance to investigate when her cousin and her cousin friends invite her to tag along. They end up abandoning her there in a house that they succeeded in locking. Anne, left all alone, begins to look for a way out, while also looking at what is in the house. She stumbles across a journal that dates back to the 1920's. As she reads through the journal, entry by entry, the mysterious Nowhere Town comes to life.

         I gave this book 3.5 out of 5 stars.

        Going into this I was looking really forward to this story and getting to see a spin on the Peter Pan story. It has been forever and a day since I have been able to read a Peter Pan retelling. So, I was really looking forward to reading this. However, I was left pretty disappointed by it. I probably had way to high expectations for this and that is probably what ruined it for me. It was very predictable, and the main character Gwen got on my nerves a little. She acted weak and kept making obviously stupid decisions. When people were in trouble she just stood there. Gwen was probably what ruined the book the most for me out of everything else I had a problem with in this book.

        The plot overall was okay, the only problem I had with it was that is was extremely predicable. I had pretty much correctly predicted what was going to happen in the entire book by around page 100.

         I like the overall thought of this book, but I just think it lacked in some aspects.Even though I didn't really enjoy this one I still say go for this book if you are interested in reading it! ;D  This book made me want to read more Peter Pan retelling! ;D If you have any suggestions, tell me in the comments!!

Ruta Sepetys does an amazing job a making you feel exactly what the character is feeling and makes you feel like you are actually in their shoes going through what they are. You will feel the fear they feel, the shock, horror, and just every emotion that they are feeling. The book was just amazing!

      This book was a pretty fast read despite the fact that it is nearly 400 pages. The chapters are only two or three pages long so, it flew by pretty fast. I love how there was four different perspectives! I am a total sucker for multiple POVs. I love them and I definitely love this one. Emilia, Florian, Joana, and Alfred who we see the perspective of. I pretty much loved everyone but, Alfred. I was compelled to just skip his part when ever it would appear. I can't think of anything that would describe how I feel about him. He thought he was above everybody else, and was just a cruel person.

      Not only was this story compelling and unpredictable but, it was also devastating. The ending broke my heart! I wish in the end we got to see more about what happened to two certain characters. Anyways overall, this book was absolutely amazing and I enjoyed every second of it. Even the ugly sob moments at the end. I will be definitely be checking out Ruta Sepetys other books in the near future. I also recommend this to pretty much everybody, and definitely to those who are in love with historical fiction. Even if you aren't really into historical fiction, I think this is one worth checking out! I rated this book 4 out of 5 stars! ;D

         The moment I opened this book and started reading, I was hooked. The entire story is so thrilling and compelling to the point that I never honestly wanted to put it down. The point of view in this book is third person which I am not very used to. I feel like it is very rare in Young Adult books, or it's just the ones I am reading. At first I wasn't so sure about it, but I ended getting used to it and didn't mind. One thing I really like about Schism is that it didn't dwell forever on useless or unimportant things, and right from the beginning it got to the point. Which, I absolutely love by the way. One other thing that really stuck out to me in this book was how well Britt Holewinski made this feel like it was actually happening. It all felt so real! From how the characters conversed between each other to how the entire world building felt like it wasn't fiction. It was amazing, and it blew my mind! I have never really experienced that with a book to that extent, and I loved every second of it (as I may or not have already mentioned). ;D

        Before I read this book, I had read a couple of reviews about this book to just see others opinions on the book, and there was one common complaint that I had come across. That was that it was apparently unrealistic on how at that young of a age (around 13-18)were that smart and how much the children know about certain things. The characters in this book are extremely smart by the way. This book takes place after a virus had broke out that pretty much killed anybody except for those who were under thirteen. The three main characters, when they aren't fighting for survival, are reading and building up their knowledge. In my opinion, I don't think it is unrealistic at all about how much information the children had obtained and learned over the years. I think people forget that children are like sponges and that they soak up all the information that surrounds them. They learn stuff from their surroundings, and as explained from the book, some of the characters had learnt certain things because their parents would do stuff related to their career around them. The kids picked up from what their parents had shown them. So yeah, in my opinion, not unrealistic at all! 

        Overall, I loved this book! I really look forward to what will happen next! My rating or this book is 4 Stars out of 5! I totally recommend you all to check this one out! It's awesome!

       This books took a second for me to really get into, but once I did, I couldn't put it down. As the story began to develop, I became more and more intrigued by it. I really love Amber Argyle's writing style, story telling, and world building. Lets also talk about that cover! It's stunning!

       This book follows the perspective of Ilyenna, clanmistress of the Shyle. When the Tryans had attacked friends of the Shyle, they send their men to help. When they come back, with both men from both tribes injured, the Shyle people are overwhelmed. One day, when the Tryans attack again, Ilyenna is severly injured. Fairies come upon her, heal her, and ask her to be their queen. But, there is a catch. In order to be queen, she will have to forfeit her humanity. When she decides to be part of her life a little longer, she is enslaved by the Tyrans. This story follows her, her fight to stop the Darrien's advances towards her, and her fight to save the her people and herself.

          The overall pace of this story was fantastic. It didn't go too slow nor too fast. Also, what's really great about this story is that it is action packed. There wasn't a second that something wasn't happening. There is a lot of violence in this book, however. That aspect didn't really bother me, but if you don't necessarily like a lot of violence in books, I would say go in with caution.

          The characters were well created and they were just amazing. I absolutely loved how strong and caring Ilyenna is. I love Rone too! He is so sweet and nice! How could you not?!? I was in constant awe on how much Ilyenna helped others no matter how badly they may of treated her, and how Rone would always put Ilyenna before himself. I just absolutely love the relationship between the two!

          This overall was a fantastic read! I have completely fallen in love with Amber Argyle's writing and will definitely be checking out the rest of this series and her other books as well!
